Information Service Academy

The Information Service Academy was established in 1980 as an in-service training institution responsible for developing skills of the media managers of the Government of Pakistan. The 7th CTP was the first batch to get the training through attachment with various information and media related offices as at that time the ISA had no premises of its own to start classes. Nonetheless, in 1981 the ISA initiated its Specialized Training Programme for the probationers of 8th CTP. Since then, 30 batches of Information Group officers have received training in this institution.

Apart from imparting specialized training to the newly inducted officers of Information Group, the ISA has played a very constructive role in arranging capacity building courses for mid-level officers of Information Group, officers from Provincial Information Departments, and journalists belonging to Tribal and Northern Areas of Pakistan. The training module of all these courses were devised in consultation with experts in the field of public information, communication, public relations and mass media.

Objectives of Specialized Training

The Training Module of ISA is aimed at achieving the following objectives:

  • Training the officers in line with the professional responsibilities and the requirements of the government in the emerging environment of free and open Media.
  • Improving the managerial capabilities and professional qualities of the public servants in the  Information and Media set-ups.
  • Inculcating the qualities of efficiency, honesty and integrity among the newly inducted officers.
  • Grooming the under-training officers to become role models through their character-building, development of inter-personal skills, team-work and civilized behaviour.
  • Teaching new management techniques through group discussions and field studies.
  • Establishing greater interaction between the Faculty and the under-training Officers.

39th Specialized Training Program 2022-23

Secretary Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Madam Shahera Shahid attended inaugural session of 39th STP and interacted with the probationers. The probationers were introduced to their faculty and also introduced themselves. After which their regular classes began.

The Academy has designed its training course in consultation with the Federal Public Service Commission. The training has two parts:

  1. Specialized Training, for which Probationers have to appear in the Final Passing Out Examination conducted by FPSC = 1000 Marks
  2. Evaluation by the Academy:Discipline, Class Participation, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Research Papers and Book Reviews, Study Tours / Reports, Leadership qualities, Information Technology Skills, etc. Note: Final seniority of the Probationary Officers is determined on the basis of the combined results of CSS and Final Passing Out Examination and their performance at CSA and Information Service Academy.
